3 Personality Types of Under30 Job Seekers

| March 20, 2013 | 1 Comment

Job SearchDo not be alarmed if you go interview for a job and the age range of people you see is 16-66. The economy today calls for people to have multiple positions and today the 22 year old graduate is competing with the 47 year old with the Master’s Degree.

Each individual is different and should cater their job search according to what they want. Many people get discouraged because they can’t get the position  they are qualified for. Remember that if you are able to work in your field , you have won half the battle. Be patient and consistent. If you get hired keep looking elsewhere until you find another position or the one you’ve been waiting on opens up. Below I have listed 3 categories  for the under 30 job seeking crowd:

The Entrepreneur

If you own your own business, want to own a business, or have worked for people who own their own small business.

You are already a seeker, so narrow down your search to related fields of work. If you do marketing search for people who need marketing in Fashion, Sports, Law or Medicine. Marketing is universal don’t exclude anyone. For example, If your strengths are within entertainment and that’s where you want to stay look only in entertainment.

Be firm in your choices, when you own your own business you don’t want to confuse clients, they need to know exactly what you do. If you are an entrepreneur you definitely have the connects so put them to use, go to your local arts festival or city council meeting, If you meet people in the right positions you can make a position for yourself.Bartering services can also turn into paid clients. Keep an open mind.

The Follower

If you have no interest in running a business yourself and have always worked under someone in a management role.

You take direction very well, but when left to handle a situation on your own you can’t perform. Look for the positions where you have authority but you have a boss. The fields that are always hiring for this type of person are retail, hospitality and city or county jobs. Majority of people fail to look to the city government for positions; check the courts, Police Dept. and libraries, these positions usually pay well.

Use your resources, remember your old middle school teacher, reach back you never know what you can pull forward. If you are in good standing with your previous boss or management, reach out to them; If you have a good rapport they can recommend you to their other business partners.

The Straggler

You are just trying to get by; you have some experience in different fields but just need to pay your bills.

You will take what you can get; you really don’t have a preference. You need to call your friend above “The Entrepreneur” because they know somebody that’s looking for somebody. One thing people forget with the Internet today is to READ.Grab the local paper or chronicle, ask your friends. The Internet may not have local business openings, Print publications are still very beneficial. When you get out there try places like grocery stores, nail shops, hair salons and fast food restaurants. These people make money daily so it will be easy for you to get trained and put on payroll quickly, so you can make that car payment.

The basics for all these personality types is to build relationships, research, surf the web, social network and there is nothing better than the good ole face to face interaction. Put on your business attire, print out some resumes and get out there. Image is important, keep that in mind and if you go looking for it you will find it.
