Evolution of Professionals and their DNA of Success

| December 14, 2012 | 0 Comments

As our world piggybacks on this ever revolving planet, every moment brings with it natural phenomena of gradual development from simple to complex – a process termed Evolution and best described by Herbert Spencer’s words – “survival of the fittest.”

As with everything else, Evolution has brought a marked change in the meaning of the term professional. In its traditional sense, professional is a person who is engaged in a paid occupation which is his profession. However, as organizations evolve, so does the profession and the professional environment. It is no longer enough to be just professionally qualified.  Long gone are the days when a professional degree could end you up with a dream job, success, and the coveted tag of being true professional. Today, these are mere preliminary prerequisites to turn professional.

Evolution to Global Professional!

About a decade into the turn of this century, the world is more connected that ever before. Each day professionals interact with a global audience – right from a call center employee somewhere in Asia to expat bosses to customer’s facebook comments from across the globe. Today’s global professional is not a product of change but a catalyst to change.  In the rapidly evolving global economy, there is a critical need to be constantly updated beyond the basic key skills. As organizations, the global professionals have to understand the nuances of working in a global work culture.

Among thousands of professions and millions of qualified professionals, how do you ensure professional success?

As the benchmark for professional success evolves constantly, there is something extra that is left desired – the virtue that is common to all successful professionals – Professionalism.

Web describes it as the competence or skill expected of a professional. However, as the professionals evolve into Global Professionals, these expectations are constantly changing. Professionalism is no more about making money by just doing what is required out of a profession. It is no more just a virtue derived out of the thorough knowledge of a profession. A Successful Professional is someone who exhibits Professionalism beyond its traditional meaning. There are numerous stories of leaders and professionals who fall from grace because they failed to understand the evolving boundaries of professionalism.

At our organization we constantly engage with subject matter experts. These SMEs are highly successful global professionals who work with us on project engagement basis. They are the professionals who belong to varied industries and have implemented innovative ideas to solve some of our client’s most complex business problems. However, despite their varied backgrounds and the fact that they all work with us over the cloud, there is something common to all of them.

I call it DNA of Success - the ability to work unsupervised, maintain integrity at all times, and confirm a completion of job.

No matter what career you choose! If you could inculcate DNA of Success at each stage of your professional conduct and constantly update yourself against the rapidly evolving global economy – you will lead the pack of professionals. After all evolution favors the survival of the fittest!!
